Smith Suffers Through Excruciating Night

David Steele, Sporting News
A little before 11 p.m. Eastern Time Thursday night, Aaron Rodgers sent a tweet that circled the NFL globe in seconds. It couldn’t have come as a surprise to anyone, but for the biggest quarterback name available in the NFL draft, it summed up the night perfectly. “Hang in there Geno, ... good things come to those who wait’ - Paul Tagliabue” is how it read. Geno Smith probably saw it when everyone in America saw it—unless he’d turned off his phone in frustration by then. Around that time, the Vikings were using their second...

Huge Payday Awaits Packers’ Rodgers

Jason La Canfora, CBS Sports
It won't be too long before Aaron Rodgers becomes the highest-paid player in NFL history. It could be a week or two. Perhaps a month or two.   But given the ongoing negotiations between the star quarterback and the Packers, the progress to this point and the accepted reality between the sides that Rodgers is going to eclipse in most every way the recent record contract signed by Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, it's only a matter of time before he becomes the league's first $25-million a year man, or damn close to it.   It will happen this offseason and after the rumblings...

A Thaw in Favre-Rodgers Cold War

Chris Strauss, USA Today
For the first time in five years, there seems to be a winter thaw happening in Green Bay. The February temperatures remain frigid, but the climate between current Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and his predecessor Brett Favre appears to be warming following their joint appearance at Saturday's NFL Honors event. The scripted moment, which onstage seemed to still show traces of the awkwardness that remained following Favre's contentious departure from the Packers in 2008, wasn't so bad, according to Rodgers. On his weekly radio show, the 2011 NFL MVP said it's time for the...

49ers’ Kaepernick move gets test against Packers

(Reuters) - A bold mid-season quarterback change will get a high-profile test when Colin Kaepernick leads the San Francisco 49ers against Aaron Rodgers and the visiting Green Bay Packers in the NFL playoffs on Saturday. Kaepernick replaced signal caller Alex Smith, after the former top draft pick came out with a concussion in Week 10 and San Francisco coach Jim Harbaugh decided to make the switch permanent, putting his faith in the second-year player. ...

Rodgers wants more from Packers offense

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers waves to fans after defeating the Minnesota Vikings in their NFL NFC wildcard playoff football game in Green Bay(Reuters) - Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers led his team into the NFC divisional round of the playoffs with a routine 24-10 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday but said his offense needed to develop the killer instinct. Rodgers threw to 10 receivers as he put up 274 passing yards, completing 23-of-33 passes and throwing one touchdown, but the failure to truly finish off the Vikings in the third quarter concerned the Super Bowl MVP from two seasons ago. "Our defense played at a championship level, which you have to have in the postseason. ...
